Creating audio worlds - audio drama discussion event

Come to our free bilingual Welsh-English Q&A and discussion about all things audio drama, with leading writers in audio.

Audio drama is one of the most flexible art forms. It can take audiences inside someone's head - or to the moon. It can be powerfully realistic, or magical and immersive. You might access it via the radio, or podcasts, or audio installations.

So how is writing for audio drama different than for other art forms? What are the freedoms, and the challenges? And how to navigate this career as a writer?

This session will be run bilingually, with breakout rooms in Welsh and English. There will be opportunity for audience questions.

In the Welsh-language room, writer Mari Izzard and director/ dramaturg Izzy Rabey will be in conversation. In the English-language room, writers Faebian Averies and Natasha Kaeda will be in conversation.

Mari Izzard has most recently written Yr Arallfyd for audio installation project, Language Landscapes. She was nominated for a stage debut award for her bilingual play, HELA.

Izzy Rabey has directed audio dramas for Audible and for the installation project, Language Landscapes. She's directed plays at the Royal Court and for National Theatre of Wales.

Faebian Averies was the BBC Wales Writer In Residence and the National Theatre Wales Writer In Residence for 2020. She has written multiple dramas for Radio 4 and won the Imison Award 2022 for her radio play The Lemonade Lads.

Natasha Kaeda has just written drama Half Lives for Radio 4. Before that, she wrote Gathering Day for audio installation project, Language Landscapes and Autumn for On-Comm Award-winning series, Land Skeins.
