News Story
Theatr Clwyd’s Dance for Parkinson’s group launched in 2019. The group involves dance, movement and live music specifically designed for People living with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. Dance for Parkinson’s sessions invite participants to move in a way that feels good for them. They include seated and standing exercises that are adaptable to individuals needs and is accessible to everyone. The sessions focus on finding flow, strength, and expression through movement with the support of evocative live music. They finish with time to have a ‘paned’ and a chat.
During the pandemic groups moved online in March 2020 and have continued online as well as in person, allowing people from across Wales and the UK to be involved.
Dawnswyr Delyn are a Welsh Folk Dance group that meet in Mold. They reached out to Theatr Clwyd wanting to raise money for Dance for Parkinson’s as members of their group have a lived experience of the condition. Earlier this year during their Twmpath and Mari Lwyd tour of Flintshire, Dawnswyr Delyn raised an incredible £848 to be donated to Theatr Clwyd.

We are very much a local group who, through our love of keeping Welsh traditional dance, music and the language alive, hold a few local events a year for anyone to experience. We like to put money raised into charities that connect in some way to our group. This time Dance for Parkinson’s, supported by Theatr Clwyd, was new to us and especially close to our hearts. Keeping the donation local, given the source of the donations, felt the right way to go.Geraint Wilde, treasurer of Dawnswyr Delyn
