Open Casting - Under Milk Wood
Open Casting Call for Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent actors in Wales.
Theatr Clwyd hosts an open call to Welsh/Wales-based Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent actors for a major new touring production as part of the Craidd Partnership.
We would like to meet Welsh and Wales-based actors who identify as Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent for our 2026 production of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas, directed by Kate Wasserberg, the first of four productions within the Craidd partnership.
We are inviting actors to apply for a place in a series of audition days taking place on the following dates in 2025:
March 11 at Pontio in Bangor
March 14 at Ty Pawb in Wrexham
March 18 & 19 at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff
March 20 at Trinity St Davids in Carmarthen

What is Craidd?
Craidd is a collaboration between five Welsh organisations: Theatr Clwyd, Sherman Theatre, Pontio Arts, the Torch Theatre, and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Its mission is to improve mainstream representation, for and with Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent theatre makers across Wales. It also aims to drive positive change in the partner organisations involved as well as the wider theatre sector.
The first stage of the collaboration included an audit of each organisation, sector conversations, extensive training, and defining a roadmap for the next 5 years. Director for Change Sara Beer leads the Craidd project with the five Agents for Change who are based in the Craidd venues across Wales.

Cathy Piquemal (Theatr Clwyd), Jonny Cotsen (Sherman Theatre), Bridie Doyle-Roberts (Royal Welsh College Music & Drama), Angharad Tudor (Torch Theatre) and Nikki Hill (Pontio).
Alongside the programme of change, each organisation will create a mainstage touring production featuring Deaf, disabled, and/or neurodivergent talent.
Theatr Clwyd will produce the first show in 2026 and tour to the Sherman Theatre, Pontio Arts, and the Torch Theatre.
What will happen on the day?
The day will consist of accessible games and warm up exercises, a movement workshop and one to one time with Theatr Clwyd Artistic Director Kate Wasserberg, who is directing Under Milk Wood.
Applicants are welcome to audition in English or BSL.
What about access?
We will provide access support and make the day as accessible as possible, including responding to individual riders/requests. We know that access requirements vary for everyone. We will work with you to help you feel comfortable and do your best work.
What will happen at the open audition?
We will be seeing small groups of people in either a morning or afternoon session. Spaces are extremely limited as we want to look after everyone as best we can. There will be a combination of some group games and a movement workshop, alongside a one-on-one audition with Kate Wasserberg and other senior creatives from Craidd partner venues.
How do I take part?
We will make every effort to meet any Welsh or Wales-based Deaf, disabled, and/or neurodivergent actors who would like to take part. For us to help you do your best work, we ask that you submit your professional acting CV or Spotlight link initially and indicate whether you wish to be seen in North or South Wales.

After the deadline, if you are selected, we will contact you with a date and time for your audition. We will also ask you to either complete a ‘work with me’ rider document or send us your existing access rider. You can choose whichever option is easier for you.
We will also provide more detailed information on what to prepare for the day. This information will be delivered in written format, but other formats will be available on request.
Will I be able to bring my own support person with me?
Theatr Clwyd will be arranging various access support across the audition timings, but we are aware you may need more one-on-one support with a trusted individual to access the day. We’ll discuss that with you when you apply.
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to pay for any one-on-one support workers, you will need to arrange and pay for this.
Theatr Clwyd will pay for and arrange for sufficient BSL interpreters, creative enablers and audio describers to be available in the space, including at the individual session if required.
What if I can’t attend?
If you are unable to attend these dates but want to be considered for Under Milk Wood we are hoping there will be other opportunities to audition.
